On the Wave of Populism. Current Development of Freedom and Direct Democracy
NUSKOVÁ, Nikola
This bachelor thesis deals with populism in the Czech Republic, specifically on the examples of the Dawn of Direct Democracy and Freedom and Direct Democracy. The first part of this thesis outlines the theory of populism, followed by an approach to the business past of the founder and leader of both political subjects, Tomio Okamura. The next chapter explores the creation and development of the Dawn, and the reasons for the departure of its chairman are examined. The third chapter maps the approach of Freedom and Direct Democracy from its foundation to the present. Besides other things, there is space for the internal party organisation and the programme goals; even the political marketing is not left out. Last but not least, the thesis focuses on analysing the elections in which the party during its existence participated.

Nováková, Dora ; Čada, Karel (advisor) ; Frantová, Veronika (referee)
The thesis HateFree Culture: The importance of agonistic dialogue in mitigating Islamophobia is a case study of the Czech government's campaign against hate crime - HateFree Culture. The thesis deals with the current phenomenon of Islamophobia and identifies how the HateFree Culture initiative works with the topic of Islam in an attempt to alleviate Islamophobic manifestations in society. It examines the extent to which the primary tool of this campaign, a moderated Facebook discussion, can affect Islamophobic expressions and identifies the link between this discussion and deliberative forums. The thesis shows that the various techniques used in the project can positively influence the way in which the topic is discussed and can thus progressively lead to a reduction in the manifestations of Islamophobia in society. This process is discussed in relation to the theory of deliberative democracy. However, it also concerns the theory of agonistic pluralism and an agonistic dialogue. The thesis finds that the aim of the project is promoting the knowledge of Islam and Muslims that could lead to a better mutual understanding, but also to the cultivation of a conflict that is related to the topic in order to transform its character into a less harmful one. HateFree Culture is thus shown as an agonistic...

Islamophobia and Czech public space. Reception of cartoon affair
Sláma, Vojtěch ; Slačálek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Bíba, Jan (referee)
The theoretical part of the thesis will define the concept of Islamophobia on the basis of foreign and Czech literature. Starting point will be, inter alia, Pavel Barša's concept of the "new xenophobia" as well as a comparison between the historical anti-Semitism and contemporary Islamophobia by Matti Bunzl at the same time reflecting the arguments of critics of the concept, as they were presented by Robin Richardson. Following will be a discursive analysis of two Czech media resources: webportal Eurabia, which was the main representative of the Czech Islamophobic rhetoric in the period (2006) and a leading newspaper Mladá Fronta Dnes. The analysis will monitor the ways in which the Mohamed cartoons controversy was thematized, applied characteristics and means of expression. At the same time the thesis will confront the analysis to more general issues stemming from the dialogue with theoretical conceptualizations of Islamophobia: Can we define the analyzed sources' language as Islamophobic? Does Islamophobia actually falls into the definition of "new xenophobia", or is it only a successor of "old" xenophobia? Finally it will attempt to define whether and why the cartoons affairs is symptomatic for the Czech Islamophobia. Keywords islamophobia; new xenophobia; Muhammad cartoon crisis; discourse analysis

This bachelor's thesis focus is on comparison of two far right movements, English Defence League and Jewish Defense League. Primary goal is to establish or disprove the existence of characteristics common for a movement of new far right and a movement founded in the second half of 20th century. For comparison I use a modified model, formerly used for comparison and description of social movements. Secondary target of this thesis is that the description of both movements can be used as a basis for a more extensive research and also the model, after longer term testing.

Kočařová, Martina ; Barša, Pavel (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
Islamophobia and New Populism in Contemporary Western Europe: France and the Netherlands Bc. Martina Kočařová The Master thesis Islamophobia and New Populism in Contemporary Western Europe: France and the Netherlands explores current transformations of populism in contemporary Western Europe. The main objectives of the thesis are following: First, to verify a hypothesis implying that islamophobia has become a new feature of the contemporary populism, which has been consequently changing in terms of its content. Thus, it can hardly be classified as another form of the 'far right' politics. In this context, one may observe its shift towards the centre of the political party system. Second, based on the above outlined assumption, we aim to study whether the populist parties can be considered 'populist' in spite of the new features they have recently adopted. The theoretical framework of our research refers to Paul Taggart's conceptualisation of populism applying it on the cases of the French National Front under the lead of Marine Le Pen and the Dutch Party for Freedom and his leader Geert Wilders.

Štěchová, Lucie ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
Despite the fact that the muslim community in the Czech Republic is not so large in comparison with some other European countries, we can meet manifestations of isalmophobia even here. The initiave Islám v ČR nechceme (further referred to as The Initiative or IvČRN; translates We do not want Islam in the Czech Republic) belongs among the most significant representatives of Czech anti-Islamic scenes, but so far has stayed ouside the interest of political scientists. Ambition of the paper is to fill in, so to speak, the empty space. The paper concerns a case study submitting characteristic of IvČRN both from the organizational (persons, structure, activities, funds and means) and ideological points of view. Via qualitative analysis of text and audiovisual materials, whose authors are either individuals associated with IvČRN or IvČRN itself, according to the program Atlas.ti and based on Grounded Theory method I will specify the way IvČRN interprets Islam. I will also examine how the Czech political scene reflect on IvČRN, and what relation there is between IvČRN and the far right. The paper will also present a short overview of other anti-Islam entities in the Czech Republic and some western countries. The work also includes interpretation of Islam by selected Czech Arabists (Luboš Kropáček, Bronislav...
